The Project
Learning Without Borders (LWB) is a Belgian NGO with a MEA Branch based in Cairo. Its aim is to connect demand and offer for low cost laptops for schools, in particular in countries where the digital divide is clearly visible.
Mission
The overall objective of the LWB initiative deals with the implementation of ICT infrastructure - hard- and software and applications - in emerging and developing countries, focused on formal and non-formal education and community development and related activities.
Reducing the digital divide is essentially a question of means. Fortunately technological progress through major cost reductions is helping substantially. Investment in infrastructure as well as for operational costs become feasible.
The aims of LWB
Our aim is to focus on formal education consisting in the introduction of ICT in schools, addressing all boys and girls; an on non-formal education, or capacitybuilding of skills of adolescents and adults, inclusive reducing illiteracy.
Our aim is to propose low-cost solutions with a strong bottom up approach, allowing a flexible offer, starting with realistic quantities, facilitating schools or communities to step in a practical process of implementation.
Our aim is to provide support for maintenance, training of teachers and trainers and the management of the entire project, guaranteeing a successful outcome of the project.
